Father did NOT agree to CI

This father did not agreed, yet was powerless to stop his daughter getting CI!

A father’s battle over his right to NOT agreed for his daughter to get the CI – What is your view on this?

Is that a common occurrence in USA where the court can ignore one parents wishes?

I completely agree with the father. The court should not be requiring that little girl to wear something that she does not like because of the stupidity of her mother and their family. I am a hearing person with a deaf mother and I think they are wrong. That little girl has every right to live the life she chooses not be subjected to their rules because they don’t understand.

YOU THE FATHER OF UR DAUGHTER, U HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO KEEP ON FIGHTING FOR CI THAT SHE DON’T WANT. STEPFATHER DON’T HAVE A RIGHT TO SIGN THAT PAPER. If the surgery was done, the mother must have full custody of the child. The court order that the CI must stay on because the child won’t get benefit unless she wears the device! Courts often put forth orders when there is a disagree between the parents.

I FELT BAD FOR HER BECAUSE SHE HAS SUFFER INNER EAR TO MAKE NOISE AND CAN LEAD TO DIZZY OR POSSIBLE DEVELOP BRAIN CANCER. “DANGEROUS” I AM LITTLE HARD OF HEARING AND I AM RAISING FULL DEAF CULTURE LIFE. I 100% DISGREEMENT CI WHICH ARE NOT NATURAL BORN WITH IT. I THINK OF EX-LADYFRIEND HAS WEAKNESS BECAUSE SHE IS A VICTIMIZING BY HER PARENTS CONTROVERSIAL. Shaun, I feel for you. Sadly, my brother, Donald is facing the same dilemma as you are. My brother has to go to the court soon because the judge was upset with him for not following his orders that he MUST make his 5 years old deaf daughter to wear cochlear implant all the time. Ironic, the mother is deaf. She had the implants done and she wanted the same for the daughter. She waited until she won the custody battle….took SaraBeth to the hospital. When she was discharged, she paged Don informing him that SaraBeth is out of the hospital with a new cochlear implant. Imagine how we felt when we heard about this. I even videotaped Don trying to put the cochlear implant device on his daughter and it was soooo heartbreaking!!! She would try to say, no no no I dont want cochlear implant on. Yet, the judge still do not care to this day and he wants Don to follow his order PERIOD!!! This is something that we need to do….the courts in a remote area and the judge obviously is an ignorant person who knows nothing about deaf people. Yet, NOBODY is listening or helping my brother.

If anyone could help, that would be great!!

Question, did ex-girl and new boyfriend marry? If yes, did stepdad get custody of Emma? If so, then no matter what, court see stepdad as dad, and he can sign any paper as dad no matter what and not need Shaun – of course this is sad, because he is BIG part of Emma! Court strict about this!

If stepdad have NO custody, then FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! Good to keep sign with Emma, keep her original language alive. Emma still DEAF! She may have CI, but DEAF spirit not repressed! Teach her culture and keep her in DEAF circle – later, she may help other with same problem and help fight.

Maybe to help Emma sleep, tell ASL story to distract and zzzzzzz…..

I was born HOH and when 62 years old got a single implant. I am hearing better than I ever did with HA’s. I heard well enough to know that having sound in your life adds another dimension to it. Having sound in your life is like from going two dimensions to three. Literally. To make the most of cochlear implants, one must stimulate the auditory centers of the brain early, early, the earlier the better. To deny a child a gift of hearing is like denying a child a gift of sight if the child is born blind. If a deaf parent allows their deaf child the gift of hearing, it is possible that the child will later leave the deaf world for the hearing world. But I truly believe, the parent who loves their child will take a chance on this happening in order to let their child experience all that life has to offer, including sound.
